Matt Walker lanza “Dobro Nada”

English Translation

Australian Matt Walker has constantly composed his own instrumental music and continues to explore the corners of his guitars in search of the hidden and elusive sounds of the moments. "Dobro Nada" released on October 9 is his new album by this restless musician, member of Lost Ragas, who will soon release a new album, The Cruel Sea or play with Ashley Davies or Tex Perkins on The Fat Rubber Band.

"Dobro Nada" is a fascinating instrumental release of cosmic and ambient music that combines slide and dobro guitar with cascading synthesizers, and percussion. Influenced by Ry Cooder as well as Neil Young's Dead Man soundtrack or the magnificent soundtrack that William Tyler recently composed for First Cow, under an abstract tapestry of ambient blues, many times the words abound and the sounds are enough to convey some feeling, and Matt Walker achieves this with this album.

After listening to it several times, I still find it incredible how many feelings this musician manages to convey with just a guitar and synthesizer. His music automatically moves you into images that convey desolation, sadness and regret but also fill us with hope and desire to move forward.

Of course, don't expect to find the virtuous classical guitar that achieves a thousand notes per second, none of that! In fact, this record is a lesson for that kind of virtuosity. This album is virtuoso because it is a gale of feelings achieved just by playing a few notes on a guitar. If you are looking for a sound that defines melancholy or sadness, I recommend listening to this album.

Dobro Nada is, in a way, a play on words. Dobro is the name of the wooden body guitar with metal resonator that appears on the recordings. The word "dobro" is both a contraction of Dopyera, the surname of the brothers who created the instrument in 1929, and the word meaning "good" in their Slavic language. In that same Slavic group, the Serbian word "nothing" means "hope," which is also the name of Walker's companion, Nada Čordašić.
